A couple of weeks ago, the lovely ladies at Jo Loves invited me to the launch of a very exciting new candle– Jo Loves The Beaumont. It was the most romantic and inspiring evening I’d had in a while since we spent most of the evening in conversation with Jo Malone and Jeremy King.
Jeremy King and Chris Corbin are the brains behind The Beaumont(and the Wolseley & the Delaunay to name just a couple)- a Grade II listen 1926 building which they have lovingly transformed into a fabulous hotel. Grand in style, yet effortlessly elegant and intimate, the classic design reflects the great Art Deco hotels of the 1920s cleverly combining an old-world aesthetic and values with 21st century advances in technology and comfort.
Jo and Jeremy talked us through their journeys, their friendship and their visions that led to the creation of the Jo Loves The Beaumont scent & candle. Jeremy introduced us to the fictional James ‘Jimmy’ Beaumont who, the entire hotel and its ‘history’ are built around. Jo brings Jimmy Beaumont to life by capturing the essence of his character and the heart of the hotel in this scent. Much like when you read a book, I imagined my very own Jimmy Beaumont- he is tall, classically handsome, is always in a 3 piece suit with perfectly polished shoes and is a complete gent. He goes to the bar at the Beaumont after a long day, orders a drink and smokes a cigar to relax. His classically handsome face, dress and demeanour fit perfectly with the hotel while his scent too is parallel to the hotel; warm and homely.
‘As you step into the hotel, theres a real feeling of going back in time to a by-gone era associated with old-fashioned glamour and sophistication. Inspired by the warm palette of cherry words and walnut, dark browns and deep reds, I’ve translated everything I see into scent. It’s such a welcoming fragrance which instantly evokes a sense of decadence and grandeur.’ Jo Malone MBE
Jo loves for her stores to be more than just a retail space and her products to be an experience in themselves. She has undoubtedly achieved that with Jo Loves The Beaumont. This candle is an experience of the beauty of the past and the comfort of coming home. Sophisticated, calm and comforting, this soft harmony of crushed, aromatic spices and warm smoky incense gently fills the air with a sense of familiarity, tradition and nostalgia.
I love this candle and the revoked memories of the glamorous 1920s & Jimmy Beaumont at even the slightest whiff. The hotel is painfully beautiful and I love that I’ve been able to take a piece of its glamour away with me. The evening with Jo and Jeremy was as inspiring as it was beautiful. Jo Malone has created some of the most gorgeous products available in the beauty industry and I was so excited to have met and chatted with her. Jeremy was utterly charming and his hotel equally so. I am itching to go back and spend some more time there; who’s coming for a drink?
