How to Pick Grooming Gifts for Him for Fathers Day…

Whether you’re buying gifts for your dad, father in law, husband or partner, men are notoriously challenging to buy for. This post is intended to help ease the struggle we’ll all face in the run up to Fathers Day this time next week. However this guide will help you pick grooming gifts for him no matter what the occasion. Men deserve a bit of pampering from time to time too but you’ll rarely find them admitting to enjoying it. You’ll also rarely find them being as fussy with it as we are. You won’t find them stacking their shelves with ‘pretty’ products or 5 solutions to every skin concern. To get them on board, we need to make it as masculine and simple as possible.

A good starting point when trying to pick grooming gifts for him is the packaging. Men tend to like simple, clean packaging with masculine colours that is fuss free. Pumps and tubes are the way to go, jars will be too much hard work and don’t even bother with sheet masks. Multi functional products are also good in order to keep their collection of products to a minimum(crazy, I know!). The brands and ranges below are all fail safe options which meet all of the above pre requisites but also deliver phenomenal results. Whether its his skin, hands or body you’re trying to help him out with, there is something for everyone below.

I am a huge fan of Crabtree & Evelyn’s Hand Recovery and Hand Therapy and the Gardeners version is perfect for men. A clean scent with notes of sage and oak moss, makes for a far more man-friendly scent. Tidy, smooth, soft hands are a must and these 2 products will give just that. The scrub smoothes the skin and tidies those pesky cuticles (essential if he refuses to go for manicures)leaving the hands groomed and supple. Crabtree & Evelyn’s Hand Therapy has always been my go to hand cream but the Overnight Hand Therapy is a relatively new addition.  Still non greasy but super moisturising, these two make the perfect gift for the man whose hands could do with a little help.

Skincare is the trickiest part of picking grooming gifts for him. The first step is to determine his skin type and then pick products that tick all the boxes. Aveda have relaunched and sent me some of the Botanicals Kinetic range with new innovative formulas and a design refresh. The minimal, chic, green packaging is not only aesthetically ideal for men but the range also harnesses the vitality of botanicals to help balance and replenish skin. The Botanicals Kinetic range has a wide variety of cleansers, toners, moisturisers and treatments for every skin type to choose from.

I would suggest a maximum of 2/3 products for daily use and one treatment for troubleshooting/pampering. The absolute basics would be a cleanser, moisturiser and some form of treatment. There are 4 different cleansers for you to choose from. The Exfoliating Creme Cleanser is best for uneven, dull skin while the All Sensitive Cleanser is best for sensitive skin and the Purifying Gel Cleanser is great for oilier skins. There are 3 different moisturisers to choose from; all of which balance the skin, replenish moisture into the skin and help retain it all day. You can choose from the Hydrating Lotion, Intense Hydrating Rich Creme or Intense Hydrating Soft Creme depending on which texture you think he’ll prefer. I would pick a treatment product according to what his main skin concern is. If dark circles, puffiness or lines around the eyes are it, I would add the Energizing Eye Creme. I would add the Exfoliant or Radiant Skin Refiner if dull skin and/or clogged pores are it; both will provide a more thorough cleanse and reveal a smoother, clearer complexion. If he has very dry/oily skin I would add a mask. The Intense Hydrating Mask hydrates and cools skin providing relief from dryness. While the Deep Cleansing Herbal Clay Mask absorbs excess oils and draws impurities from the skin, leaving it refined. If you think he will agree to more than one add on to the cleanser & moisturiser- more power to you!

Another brand that I love for mens skincare is Clarins. They have developed a special range of products designed with men in mind, to help them take care of their skin. The range includes everything from mens shaving care, moisturising creams, anti-ageing creams, eye creams, toning treatments and body care. If the man that you’re buying for is conscious of ageing, products from the Age Control Range would make the perfect grooming gifts for him. In order to preserve a youthful appearance, it’s essential to apply an age-control formula, designed specifically for men, morning and night. Find the ideal ClarinsMen formula for his skin with Line Control Balm, Line Control Eye Balm/ Anti Fatigue Eye Serum, Revitalising Gel or Line Control Cream to choose from. The Line Control Cream is designed for dry skin while the rest work on dry, combination or normal skin.

Whilst on the subject of Clarins, I have to mention the Clarins Men Shampoo & Shower. An invigorating, 2-in-1 wash that gently cleanses both hair and body. Tones skin with energising ingredients like Bison Grass and Chinese Galanga and conditions hair with provitamin B5. It is suitable for all hair and skin types, even sensitive skin. The best part however is the scent- clean and manly without being overbearingly strong. I can’t imagine any man who wouldn’t appreciate this as a gift.

Another way to gift a man in your life some body care is to combine a shower product with a scent. For the active, sporty man in your life, Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme Sport would be perfect. Top notes of grapefruit and bergamot, a heart of nutmeg and base notes of vetiver and sandalwood, combine for a fresh scent with tonnes of energy. The gym-going type of men in your life will especially appreciate the multi use All Over Shampoo with the Eau de Toilette to layer over the top. It’s easy and minimal plus the fragrance layering gives the scent longevity that either product alone just can’t.

Speaking of scents, some of the newest launches are real contenders for top of the list of best grooming gifts for him. Narciso Bleu Noir by Narciso Rodriguez is the most exciting launch for me. A huge fan of the fragrances they do for her, I was super excited when I heard of this launch last month. Built around a heart of musk and woods, Bleu Noir is timeless. With spicy and fresh notes of cadamom and nutmeg, blue cedar and black ebony, it provides a new signature scent for the modern man. Another launch from last month worth noting is Jimmy Choo Man Ice. With refreshing top notes, a sensual woody heart and musky base, it is a refreshing, invigorating and powerful fragrance.

I hope this guide helps you guys pick grooming gifts for him this week and in the future! Have a fabulous Fathers Day whatever you’re doing!
